Corporate smashed-up lounge..

The laptop entity that is Digital Cutup Lounge - have often been presented with what can be termed 'weird-ass' gig opportunities ... I have just got back from yet another of these type of gigs - where sitting behind a screen with a bunch of fellow techy types (live video screening, multi-media graphics etc etc etc) - my role being to blast out a quad-mix of sonic stimulants to a room full of semi-celebs ... and drunken open-wallets .... (all in the good cause of a charity that for the sake of this article, although being of worthy merit, shall remain nameless) ....

The celebs were of interesting quality - a certain ex-news-reader performed with the sort of professionalism that was quite awe-inspiring (if not perhaps somewhat school-teacher-like) -

An ex-nude-page-three-type famous for nothing more than the removal of clothing - did the normal modddelll swirls-n-pouts .... now I know what happens to yesterdays page-three-gals - they turn up unexpected as VIPs at charity gigs (makes total sence no less) ...

the pout ....

Some guy who not a single person had ever heard of - did his best to make sure that everyone thought he was a STAR ..... mate - take a hint - no one knows ya, and turning up for what I know is your third charitly-gig this week (and pretending to be shocked when requested to speak - juz don't cut it baby !!) ...

the actor (yeah right) .....

Anyhows...

The reason for this rant is that it seems DCL are scheduled to play at least 2 nights in Kuala Lumpa and Singapore in early May - for some wacked-out nightclub-corporate-bash - yip-skip-and-shout "mines a cocktail by tha pool mannn..." ... yet again we get to roll out the DCL-fucked-up-lounge-machine of computers/fretless-bass/drums/geetar melt-down mayhem .... I love these gigs actually - and it is a great chance to hook up with some long-time-not-seen types .... the last time DCL rolled out on the commercial-circuit for this type of thang was late 2003, when we entertained the Princess of Thailand and other notbles ... much fun being had by both me and John joined for this occasion by fellow funksers Jun Kung and Jondi Mac ....

Jondi and jun in full-on rockout mode .......

Hopefully we should be able to get Jun on board for this one, if we can first locate the dude, and then tempt him from his idylic retreat in Macau.....

Will post developments on what hopefully promises to be one of those full-on-bizzarre duo of gigs .... for now lets leave the last word (or perhaps look), to Alex - stage manager for the afore-mentioned Bangkok gig - here she observes the onstage-situation during our pre-gig sound-check .... think her expression pretty much sums up the typical DCL experience !!

"the horror, the horror....."
